Creating Deals
Deals track sales opportunities through your pipeline. Every deal is linked to a lead and, through it, to a partner. You can create deals yourself, let partners create them in the portal, or have them created automatically from your CRM.
Where to find it: Go to Deals and click Create Deal (top right).
Who can use this: Any member of your team. Partners can create deals in their portal unless you disable it.
Creating a deal
Go to the Deals page.
Click Create Deal in the top right.
The Create New Deal panel opens with two modes:
Create from Existing Lead: Search for a lead and link the deal to it. The lead's company, contact and partner are shown, and if the lead has a quote or products, the deal value is filled in from them automatically.
Create with New Lead: Create the lead and the deal in one go — fill in the lead's details and pick the partner, then the deal details, in the same form.
Details
Deal name: A label for the deal. Optional — if you leave it blank, the deal takes the lead's company name (or contact name).
Deal value: The monetary value, with a currency selector (your company currency by default). If the lead has a quote the value is shown read-only with a From quote badge; if it has products, with a From products badge.
Tags: Organise deals with tags — see Tags.
Products: Attach products to the deal (products module, and only when no quote is attached) — the value becomes the sum of the attached products. See Products.
Custom Fields: Any custom fields you have set up for deals of this partner type.
Notes: Add a note, attached once the deal is created. Notes are shared with the partner.
Click Create Deal to save.
What is set automatically
Stage: New deals start in the first stage of the pipeline for that partner type. You move them through stages afterwards — there is no stage picker at creation.
Expiration: Taken from the partner's deal-expiration setting, or your company default. If neither is set, the deal has no expiration.
Commission and spiffs: Calculated from your commission schemes the moment the deal is created — see Payments.
Quote: If the lead has a quote, it is copied onto the deal with its own quote number.
Assigned users are added after creation, from the deal panel's Assigned tab.
Deal value, quotes and products
When a quote or products drive the deal value, the value is locked — it is calculated for you and cannot be edited by hand. In the deal panel a lock icon explains: "Deal value is set by quote or products". Removing the quote or products unlocks it.
A quote sets the deal value to its annual contract value: the quote total annualised by its billing period (monthly totals ×12, quarterly ×4, yearly as-is), minus any period discounts.
If the quote changes later, the deal value, currency and commission recalculate automatically.
Products without a quote set the value to the sum of the attached products.
See Quotes on Leads and Deals for the full quote workflow.
Deal stages
Stages are custom and created per partner type in Settings. Each stage has a label, an order, and one of six lifecycle phases: New, In progress, Won, Lost, On hold, and Expired. Move deals between stages by dragging cards on the pipeline board or with the stage selector in the deal panel — commission payments become due when a deal reaches the stage set in your commission scheme. See Stages.
Deal expiration
Deals have no expiration unless you configure one. Set a company-wide default number of days in Platform Settings, or override it per partner on the partner's Settings tab (see Partner Management). You can also set or remove a custom expiration date on each individual deal.
When a deal is within 30 days of expiring, a warning appears; expired deals are highlighted in red.
From the partner portal
Partners create deals from the Deals room in their portal. The deal is linked to their partnership automatically, and they only see the fields you have shared. Depending on your settings, the deal value can be hidden from partners or locked so they cannot change it. A distributor creating a deal must attribute it to one of their resellers.
To stop partners creating deals, turn on Disable Deal Creation in the Deals room settings — existing deals stay visible. See Creating Portal Rooms.
From your CRM
With a CRM connected, deals sync two ways. Deals created in Journeybee appear in your CRM automatically. In the other direction, a deal or opportunity created in your CRM is created in Journeybee when the integration's automatic deal creation setting is on and the CRM record is associated with one of your partners. See the guides under Integrations.
Troubleshooting
You can't edit the deal value. A quote or products are driving it. Remove them to edit the value by hand — or update the quote/products and let the value recalculate.
Creating a deal fails with no stage available. Your company has no pipeline stages for that partner type yet. Create them first — see Stages.
A partner can't create deals. Disable Deal Creation is switched on in their Deals room settings, or the Deals room is not enabled for them.
New deals have no expiration date. That is the default. Set a company or per-partner deal-expiration value if you want one applied automatically.
Deals from your CRM aren't appearing. Check the integration's automatic deal creation setting is on, and that the CRM record is associated with the partner.
Good to know
Every deal needs a lead — and one lead can have several deals.
Creating a deal does not change the lead's status. Accept or reject the lead from the deal's Associated lead tab.
Commission and spiff entries are seeded from your schemes but remain editable per deal — see Payments and Spiffs.
To customise which fields appear on deal cards and list columns, see Lead and Deal Management.
