Spiffs: Individual Payment Incentives
Spiffs: Individual Payment Incentives
Spiffs are payments made directly to individual people, rather than to partner companies. They are a payment type within the commission system, so you set them up the same way as commissions but with a different payment target.
Spiffs vs commissions
Commission: Paid to the partner company. The recipient is the partnership.
Spiff: Paid to an individual person (a user or contact). The recipient is a specific individual, not the company.
Common uses for spiffs include sales rep bonuses, referral incentives for individuals, and performance bonuses for hitting targets.
Setting up a spiff
Go to Settings, then Commissions.
Click New Commission.
Enter a label for the spiff (for example, "Sales Rep Bonus").
Choose a partner type.
Under Payment Type, select Spiff (instead of Commission).
Choosing the recipient
When you select Spiff as the payment type, a Recipient Assignment dropdown appears. Choose how the recipient is determined:
Lead Creator: Pay the user or contact who created the lead.
Deal Owner: Pay the user assigned to manage the deal.
Manual Assignment: You choose the recipient on each deal individually.
Calculation
Configure the spiff amount using the same options as commissions:
Fixed: A set amount per deal.
Percentage: A percentage of the deal value.
Scaling: Variable rates based on a custom field's select option.
Assigning the spiff rule
Assign the spiff to specific partnerships, partner tiers, or partner categories, just like a commission scheme.
Managing spiffs on deals
Viewing spiff payments
Open a deal from the Deals page.
Click the Commission tab in the deal sidebar.
You will see two sections: Commission Entries and Spiff Entries.
Spiff entries show the individual recipient name.
Adding a spiff entry
You can add spiff entries to individual deals:
Open the deal and go to the Commission tab.
Find the Spiff Entries section.
Click Add Spiff Entry.
Choose the payment type (One-off, Recurring, or Split).
Select the payment stage.
If using Manual Assignment, select the recipient from the dropdown.
Choose the calculation option (Fixed, Percentage, or Scaling) and enter the value.
Paying out spiffs
Spiff payments appear on the Payments page with a purple "Spiff" badge. They show the recipient's name as the primary label. Spiffs are paid out using the same methods as commissions:
Mark as Paid: Manually mark the payment as paid.
Pay via Provider: Pay through XTRM. Spiff recipients must be registered as beneficiaries with XTRM (they need a phone number and email).
Partner portal
Partners can view spiff payments in the Payments room of their portal. The view is read-only. Partners can switch between their Commission wallet and Spiff wallet to see separate balances for each. The spiff wallet shows the balance the individual can withdraw.
